Embellishment Heaven
An April Fools nor’easter in CT gave me an opportunity to switch sewing gears and create a wall hanging based on Carol Ann Waugh’s fantastic Craftsy class, Stupendous Stitching. I was sure we’d have a power outage as sometimes happens during major snowstorms so I wanted to have a project that incorporated handwork.
The power never failed but the change of pace energized my creative juices. After searching through my fabric stash (frankly, it was almost an archaeological dig), I found a 16” x 20”piece of beautifully hand-dyed fabric that had been hidden for about ten years and was waiting for this project.

Couched fibers, a variety of built-in machine decorative stitches combined with hand-stitching, French knots, buttons, beading and gold Rustoleum spray painted washers — embellishment heaven! I didn’t incorporate Carol Ann’s very cool rattail edge finish but instead opted for traditional binding. It was a slight detour from my love of garment embellishing but inspired new ideas for upcoming projects.
